Color Laser Printer purchased October 2011. Multifunction and wireless. Inexpensive ink. Also replacing my Fujitsu ScanSnap S510.

Linux

Download and install the Brother Linux drivers. Useful hints are here. In particular:

  • Create the /var/spool/lpd (group owned by lp) first, then install both the LPD and CUPS drivers
  • Install the brscan4 drivers
  • Copy scanner drivers from /usr/lib64/sane/ to /usr/lib/sane/
  • Configure a network scanner using:
    brsaneconfig2 -a name=MFC-9970CDW model=MFC-9970CDW ip=192.168.0.150
  • You can configure hardware scans to automatically go to Linux via brscan-key and scan-key-tool
